I had a chance a few months back to have coffee with a great event planner on the east side of the state, Amanda Freeman - owner of Bliss Weddings and Events in Brighton. I asked her to take some time to share some information with my blog readers, and here's what she had to say!

How did you get started as an event and wedding planner?
When I look back at it, there are so many different things throughout my life that pointed me in this direction. Growing up, my mom was always the person who through the family get-togethers, the amazing birthday parties and the celebrations for almost every holiday. I loved watching her prepare and pitching in everywhere that I could.
I went on to work for a banquet facility as a server and eventually got promoted to banquet manager at a local venue and then switched to a company in the auto industry as their corporate events planner. I loved the idea of events from the beginning and found an internship with the company that I now own, Bliss Weddings & Events.

What's your favorite thing about helping people plan their perfect wedding?
Honestly, I love every bit of it! It is so gratifying to watch our clients faces when they see everything come together. Being able to share in one of their most special days is what keeps us going. It is hard to have a bad day when you are surrounded by people who are so in love!
On average, how many weddings do you do a year?
It really depends on the season. I try not to do more than two wedding per month, but since each clients’ needs are different we may take more or less.
If someone wanted to book you for their wedding, what are the important things they should know (timeline/process/etc)?
The most important thing to plan first is exactly what you want your wedding to say about you. Every event should be a reflection of your personality. Do you want something small and intimate or elaborate and grand. From there you can determine the type of venue and even the date you’d like to host your big day. Everything else will fall in line soon after that!
What do you recommend for brides who just aren't sure where to start with planning a wedding?
The first thing to do is have a discussion with your fiancé and family. It isn’t always easy to talk about money, but once you know how much your budget will be, you can start to plan the major details. The best thing you can do for your sanity is hire a planner or do some research online. You will be able to get everything you need from either source, from timelines to checklists. These will help keep you on task.
What makes "Bliss Weddings" different from other event designers?
Every couple is special and different and we will make sure that your event reflects that. The best thing that you can do for your wedding, and for your wedding guests, is create memories that will last a lifetime. A Bliss wedding is a unique wedding. Bliss will help you do that by ensuring that your event is a reflection of your personal style and something that stands out among the rest. Nothing cookie-cutter here! Also, experience is key. We have made connections with hundreds of wedding vendors as a result of our experience.
On a personal note, what are some of your favorite things?
I love my husband, our crazy pets and my mom and sisters. My most favorite things are the simple things like a good cup of coffee, laughs with good friends, sappy lovey-dovey movies, and road trips around my home state of Michigan. I could go on and on…
What is something you would want a future client to know about you?
That we like to have fun! Weddings weren’t meant to be stuffy, so we like to keep things simple, fun and exciting. Majority of our clients have become people that I talk to on a regular basis. We love what we do here at Bliss and wouldn’t change it for the world.
